- Dry air.
|
- Add or increase heated humidification.
- Try saline nasal spray before bedtime and upon awakening.
- May have some desensitization over time.
- Consult physician if symptoms persist.

Dry mouth |
- Sleeping with mouth open.
|
- Add or increase heated humidification.
- Try a chin strap.
- If not resolved, a full-face mask may be considered.

Sore, dry, irritated or swollen eyes; conjunctivitis |
- Mask leaks.
- Mask too tight.

- Try reseating mask on face.
- Readjust headgear straps.
- Replace mask if stiff, cracked or broken.
- Use an eye patch.

Rhinorrhea |
- Dry air.
|
- Add or increase heated humidification.
- Try saline nasal spray before bedtime.

Allergic Rhinitis |
- Irritants drawn in with room air through machine.

- Add or increase heated humidification.
- Place unit on bedside table to keep dust and/or animal hairs
out of machine.
- Consult clinician: a fine particulate filter can be added
to some units.
- Consult physician if symptoms persist.

- Initial adjustment period.

- Alcohol ingestion.
- Weight gain
- Inadequate pressure setting

- Avoid alcohol use.
- Work at weight loss.
- Consult physician for possible pressure adjustment.

Air flow seems unusually warm or hot. |
- Filter may be obstructed.
- Air intake may be blocked by bedding, curtains, etc.
- Heater on without water.

- Clean or replace filter.
- Make sure air intake is clear and unobstructed.
- Fill humidifier chamber and adjust heater setting appropriately.
