CPAP Cleaning Instructions & Supply Replacement Guidelines

Cleaning Instructions

Chin Strap

6 months

Cleaning Frequency: 1 time per week.

  1. Hand wash separately with a standard laundry detergent.  Never use bleach.
  2. Line dry.  Never iron your chin strap.  Do not place in a dryer.

 

Filter,
Large Particle (All units)

6 months

Cleaning Frequency: 1 - 2 times per month

  1. Remove filter from back of CPAP / BiPAP.
  2. Place a drop of Ivory liquid in the center of the filter.
  3. Rinse  thoroughly under cool running water.  Air dry.

NOTE: When placing filters back into a Respironics unit, be sure to place the black filter on top of the white filter.

 

Filter,
White Ultra Fine (Respironics)

30—60 days

Cleaning Frequency: NEVER
These filters are disposable and should never be cleaned.

Flexible (Gray) Tubing from CPAP to Mask

6 months

Cleaning Frequency: 1 time per month

  1. Disconnect the tubing from the Mask and CPAP / BiPAP.
  2. Soak tubing in a solution of mild detergent & water.
  3. Rinse thoroughly under cool running water.  Air dry.

NOTE: Do not use cleaning products that contain conditioners or moisturizers because they will leave a residue.

 

Heated Humidifier Chambers

3 months

Cleaning Frequency: Daily

  1. Remove humidification chamber from heater platform.
  2. Clean the chamber with a mild dishwashing detergent & water.
  3. Rinse thoroughly under cool running water.  Air dry.

NOTE: Emptying & cleaning the water chamber daily will help to prevent mold and bacteria growth.

 

Mask & Headgear

6 months

Cleaning Frequency: 1 - 2 times per week

  1. Remove the headgear & spacer, if appropriate
  2. Clean mask with "Citrus II CPAP Mask Cleaner or mild detergent & water.
  3. Rinse thoroughly under cool running water.  Air dry.

NOTE: Do not use cleaning products that contain conditioners or moisturizers because they will leave a residue.

 

Nasal Pillows

90 days

Cleaning Frequency: 2 - 3 times per week

  1. Remove the nasal pillows from the headgear appliance.
  2. Clean with mild detergent & water.  Soak if necessary.
  3. Rinse thoroughly under cool running water.  Air dry.

NOTE: Do not use cleaning products that contain conditioners or moisturizers because they will leave a residue.
